Bloody Mary
These are soldiers from Bloody Mary's café around 1770, located on Bosschstraat in Breda. Whenever I walk through Bosschstraat, I like to imagine where it once stood. This drawing contains many references to Bloody Mary, a world-famous pirate who hailed from my hometown, Breda. The famous drink and the song "Bloody Mary" are also named after her.
She was born a girl but was raised as a boy by her mother and stepfather. Later, when she had to join the army, she fell in love with a soldier and revealed her secret to him. They started a relationship and left the army together to open this inn, which was the happiest moment of her life.
This artwork is drawn in black ink and printed on Hahnemühle high quality museum grade paper.

Sizes
Available in two sizes: 40 × 50 cm, and 50 × 70 cm
Please note:
The 40 × 50 cm size has slightly different proportions, making the illustration appear a bit shorter. This means some of the drawn stones on the left side will be cropped, and the space on the right near the soldier will be tighter.
The 50 × 70 cm format is taller and more slender, showing more of the wall and the soldiers.
The fine art print shown in the interior photo is 70 by 50 cm, framed in a 91 by 61 cm frame.
The prints are sold unframed and are intended purely as inspiration.
